Organic Beans

Organic Beans

At present, organic coffee with a certification is not part of our current offerings. However, we are able to source any single-origin coffee you wish to include in your offerings. Please note that there is a minimum batch roast of 20 kg. If you proceed, we only request that the customer covers and pays upfront for the green (unroasted) cost of one full bag.  This will ensure you of your own special coffee order. Green bean bags come in lots of either 30kg, 60kg, or 70kg bags.

For many businesses it's important to offer organic coffee. There is indeed a significant market for organic coffee. While we recognise the additional costs associated with certification for growers, having a certified organic option may be essential to meet the needs of some of your target audience.

Many of the beans we source are grown using organic methods, though they may not carry the official certification. "To satisfy a customer that a lot of the beans are organic, but without the certification,"  we provide origin, and information regarding processing and turn that over to you. With some of the single origins, we may be able to create a video at origin to satisfy any other needs. This can be a way to assure customers that the coffee is grown in an organic manner, even if it lacks formal certification.

If you are interested, we have provided info below re: sourcing certified organic beans for you.

Cost of Green Organic Beans and Roasting

The cost of purchasing 30 kg of green organic beans and roasting them can vary based on several factors such as the origin of the beans, the grade of the beans and the C-market price. Here's an estimate:

Green bean deposit on first order based on how much green is ordered. - eg 1 x 30kg = cost of green or 3 x 30kg = cost of green

  • Green Organic Beans: Premium quality coffee prices generally range from $15 per kg. For 30 kg, this would be approximately $450. This is all pending market prices at the time.
  • Roasting Cost: Roasting costs $8 per kg to include  all utilities, master roaster labour, packing, mailer boxers, handling & packing of your individual order, . For 30 kg, this would be approximately $240.

Total estimated cost for 30 kg of roasted organic beans: $700.

Some potential reasons for me not selling organic beans include:

  • Supply Chain Complexity: Ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality organic beans can be challenging.
  • Cost: Organic beans often cost more, which can impact pricing and competitiveness.
  • Certification and Regulations: Navigating the certification process and adhering to regulations can be resource-intensive.
  • Market Demand: The demand for organic beans in Australia is not yet significant, so it doesn't  justify the investment.

Cost for Blends and Single Origin Coffee Beans

To provide an accurate cost for the blends and single-origin coffee beans designed for your bags is broken down into costs as follows:

  • Single Origin Coffee:  Specialty coffees are from $12 to $20 per kg for green beans, and roasted beans can be priced between $21 to $30 per kg.
  • Blends: Pricing depends on the specific origins and proportions in the blend but is generally in the same range as single-origin coffee.

Warehousing/Storage fees

Why warehousing/storage fees for green coffee beans is essential:

  1. Cost of Space - $35 per month: Warehousing requires physical space, and maintaining this space incurs costs such as rent and maintenance. Charging for storage helps cover these expenses.

  2. Handling and Management: Storing green coffee beans involves handling and management, including receiving, organising, and inventory tracking. This requires labour, which translates to additional costs.

  3. Quality Preservation: Proper storage conditions are crucial for maintaining the quality of green coffee beans. This may involve climate control (temperature and humidity), pest control, and regular quality checks, all of which have associated costs.

  4. Inventory Risk: Holding inventory carries risks, such as potential spoilage, loss, or damage. Charging storage fees helps mitigate these risks and cover potential losses.

  5. Opportunity Cost: Space used for storing green coffee beans could be used for other profitable purposes. Storage fees compensate for this opportunity cost.
